About the Academy

The Central Academy of Mind Body Medicine and Science (CAMBMS), in London, trains and develops professionals in mind–body medicine and science, and is devoted to research in this field.

Who we are

For many years, the Academy has been dedicated to training and developing professionals in the field of mind–body medicine and science. From establishing research methods and designing curricula to building a system of professional accreditation, our guiding principle has remained the same: knowledge must be usable in practice.

We remain open to scrutiny, discussion and constructive criticism from all quarters, because a field that is genuinely rigorous does not shy away from questions.

England has long been a centre of medical thought and research. The Academy carries that tradition forward, bringing a broad field of vision and an enquiring mind to research and professional training in the mind–body field.

What we study

Through long-term research, the Academy has come to focus not on the body in isolation, but on the whole picture of interaction between mind and body.

Emotional shifts register in the body as tension or ease. Sustained stress alters sleep, digestion, breathing and concentration. The state of the body, in turn, shapes how a person experiences the world and understands themselves. These interactions are visible throughout everyday life, yet no single discipline explains them fully.

Some physical and psychological phenomena are not yet fully captured by current scientific instruments. To acknowledge what is not yet understood is not to reject science. Honesty about the unknown is what gives research room to advance, and only sustained, long-term study can move the field steadily towards firmer scientific ground.

Why education matters to us

Alongside research, the Academy offers courses and professional accreditation. Sound concepts and methods should not stay confined to the laboratory and the academic paper. Passed on through education, they help more people live healthier and more complete lives.

Our curricula emphasise three things:

  • Clarity of concept, so that practitioners understand what they are doing and why.
  • Methods that can be applied in real practice, not only described in theory.
  • Professional ethics and boundaries, so that practitioners help others while knowing the proper scope of their role, and refer on when a situation lies beyond it.

Where we are going

In recent years, the Academy's work has been recognised across Asia, and we have built complementary partnerships with research and training institutes in several regions. Through faculty exchange, jointly developed curricula and mutual recognition of accreditation, professional communities can learn from one another across barriers of language and culture.

The number of professionals trained and accredited by the Academy continues to grow. Our hope is that mind–body medicine and science will enter a new stage of development: not in pursuit of one perfect answer, but so that more people, in understanding themselves, may live more completely.
